The main objective of the project is to prepare a Virtual Chemistry Laboratory environment where high school students can perform laboratory applications in the field of chemistry and to design, develop, implement and evaluate additional digital content (e-books and e-learning toolkit) as well as Virtual Chemistry Lab Applications (VCLapps).

The age of the Internet, the use of computers and some other factors have brought digitalization in education as well as in many fields. In addition, with the coronavirus (COVID – 19) pandemic period, the digitalization of original and distance education has accelerated. On the other hand, as stated in the objectives of the EU research and innovation policy, the dissemination of information as soon as possible using digital and collaborative technologies has become a necessity of the digitalization era.

Improving and modernizing education has become a priority for EU member states.
Recently, many research and development projects and studies have been carried out. As a result of the impact of digitalization on education, access to educational documents has become easier and it has become possible to access many different information and resources in virtual environment. This situation has brought some negative effects as well as positive results. It should not be forgotten that it takes years to correct the slightest mistake made in educational environments. For this reason, every learning-teaching material in the system should be prepared with great care. In addition, although students can reach the information that will meet the theoretical knowledge in the distance education documents, they cannot find the tools to meet their practical education needs. This serious deficiency causes the students not to consolidate their theoretical knowledge in practice and prevents them from showing interest in special branches. The project aims to fill this serious deficiency in the chemistry laboratory with virtual chemistry laboratory applications. In this way, it is aimed to enable high school students to make chemistry laboratory applications and to increase the interest in chemistry science.

The project will be managed by Anadolu University, which has 40 years of experience in the field of distance education, with its academic staff specialized in chemistry and distance education. The distribution of tasks in the project was made according to the expertise of the project partners. alves high school. vio Gon The Virtual Chemistry e-book will be prepared by Anadolu University according to the high school curriculum and the content of the chemistry experiments to be used in virtual chemistry laboratory applications is provided by Ankara University Development Foundation Private Schools and alves vio Gon Agrupamento de Escolas Dr. Fl High School. In the European Commission’s Research and Innovation Strategies, one of the Union’s objectives is to make Europe a world-class science centre. In this context, it is important to develop high school students’ skills and competencies in science. At this point, the successful completion and dissemination of the VCLapps and e-book project will directly contribute to this goal in the field of chemistry. Virtual applications designed to awaken the natural curiosity of this new generation of children, called digital youth, and to emphasize the connection between scientific concepts and the real world, are among the popular areas of today. With simulation-based applications, more comprehensive and interesting environments are created for children in learning. Therefore, within the scope of the proposed project, virtual simulations of six chemistry laboratories to be determined by the partners will be made with reference to the high school chemistry curriculum. In addition, a virtual chemistry e-book containing theoretical information about the experiments will be designed to support virtual applications. Project partners attach great importance that VCLapps and e-book applications, which are among the intellectual outputs of the project, to reach students at different cultural and socioeconomic levels in all geographies. The intellectual output of the project that will meet this need is the e-learning toolkit. In this context, the e-learning toolkit includes digital applications that will enable students to access the e-book and the e-quizzes contents via smartphones, tablets or data storage devices. In this way, while students can access these intellectual outputs from any point, teachers will be able to evaluate their students’ learning efficiency digitally.

In the VCL apps project coordinated by Eskişehir Anadolu University, the educational contents are provided by Ankara University Development Foundation Private Schools and Agrupamento de Escolas Dr. Flávio Gonçalves , digital education applications will be prepared by ATA Software and Asociación Para La Investigación De La Industria Del Juguete, Conexas Y Afines (AIJU). Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education will contribute to the dissemination of project outputs in 40 different high schools in 39 different districts of Istanbul.

Target Audience of the Project

The target audience of the Virtual Chemistry Apps project is to design, develop, implement and evaluate Virtual Chemistry Lab Apps (VCLapps) and additional digital content (e-books and e-learning toolkit) to enable high school students to practice labs in chemistry.

Our Project

For this purpose, two products will be developed in our project:

  • The Virtual Chemistry e-book will be prepared by Anadolu University according to the high school curriculum and the content of the chemistry experiments to be used in virtual chemistry.
  • A Virtual Chemistry Laboratory Application will be prepared to enable high school students to do laboratory applications.

Our project aims to fill this serious deficiency in the chemistry laboratory with virtual chemistry laboratory applications. In this way, it enables high school students to make chemistry laboratory applications and to increase their interest in chemistry science.
